Self Mastery… Day Twenty Five – selfLESSNESS

3 February, 2011

This is my 28 day Mastery of Self diary. It contains thoughts and lessons from the initial course I took in June 2010 and the re-cap in January 2011. I will start each daily post with some quotes pertinent to the daily topic, then the lesson quotes that stood out for me at each itteration of the course plus some other observations that may be of interest/help. You’ll find my overview of the whole course here and Libby’s site for extra info and sign up here.

“For those who wish to climb the mountain of spiritual awareness, the path is selfless work. For those who have attained the summit of union with the Lord, the path is stillness and peace.” - Bhagavad Gita

“We are formed and molded by our thoughts. Those whose minds are shaped by selfless thoughts give joy when they speak or act. Joy follows them like a shadow that never leaves them.” – Buddha

Libby explains:

If someone is shoeless, they have no shoes, if they are homeless, they have no home, if they are selfless, they have no “self” (notice lower case spelling). You have to lose your self to find your SELF.

2010 course – I achieve nothing without selfless service. Another meaning of ‘self-less’ is the lack of little i’s.

2011 recap – self-lessness is the opposite of selfishness. selflessness requires conscious thinking, feeling and acting from The Self. The Self considers the feelings and needs of others before acting, which promotes peace.

Joy follows me like a puppy :-) And lives in my heart like a kitten curled up by the fireplace :-)

That warmed my heart, L.Kae. Thank you for sharing. I’ve really been focusing on this idea. I think it requires some awareness to actually perform selfless service. It doesn’t happen by itself!! I found myself looking for opportunities and found them in the form of simply asking a gentleman in a wheelchair if I could get the door for him and he said, “yes.” He had on some really nice cologne, so i told him he smelled good. He said, “I didn’t understand what you said…did you say that I smell nice?” and I said “YES” and went on my merry way.
