Self Mastery… Day Eleven – Perception

20 January, 2011

This is my 28 day Mastery of Self diary. It contains thoughts and lessons from the initial course I took in June 2010 and the re-cap in January 2011. I will start each daily post with some quotes pertinent to the daily topic, then the lesson quotes that stood out for me at each itteration of the course plus some other observations that may be of interest/help. You’ll find my overview of the whole course here and Libby’s site for extra info and sign up here.

2010 course – ‘Meaning’ is in the eye of the beholder. Perception is my interpretation of the world and events.

2011 recap – I stay in The Now to see things as they really are. I check with my Greater Power to make sure that I am in alignment with it.

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, the dots will remain one color, pink. However if you stare at the black “ + ” in the centre of the picture the moving dot turns to green.

Now, concentrate on the black “ + ” in the centre of the picture. After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see only a single green dot rotating.

There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don’t disappear. So. We don’t always see what we think we see… The map is not the territory!

When I believe my thoughts my perception is full of judgement, which may be biased. The closer I am to The Now the more accurately I will perceive the reality of the situation, without any prejudice.

I have some difficulty with perception because the world overflows with it. Sometimes I think if I am understanding someone all I am really understanding is their perception…how accurate can that be? David helped me settle down with this by sharing the idea that my perception is accurate if it serves me. Since I have a personal belief that what serves one serves all, this works well for me.

Well, sometimes peoples perceptions are VERY accurate and sometimes they are not. If the perceptions are accurate, you won’t have the signals on page 36. Remember our question from today…”How do you know if your perceptions are accurate?” The Ultimate Answer: Check with Your Greater power!

Commenting on what David told you, if your perception serves you and it is serving all, sounds like in that case, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” If it turns out that you were perceiving inaccurately, you simply “correct and continue.”

I have observed that when our perceptions are NOT accurate, it won’t be too long until we start gettng “negative feedback from the environmnet,” in which case it’s a red flag calling us to reexamine our perception. Remember, though, sometimes we get negative feedback from the environment and THEY are not accurate.

Example, remember on the day of SELF-reliance I ask you to share a choice you made that was correct for you but others disagreed? That means you got negative feedback from the environment, but they were wrong!
